A Home for Music & Community in San Jose

Dear Friend,

The Access Problem in Music Education

Talent was never the bottleneck. Access is.

Being discovered is only as good as the resources at your disposal and the people in your corner — and most young artists have neither. Public funding and patronage for classical music have dwindled for decades. Lessons, studio time, and stage time have become luxuries many families can't reach. Meanwhile, the world is shifting toward private education, and we believe that shift can be done affordably and inclusively, instead of becoming one more thing only the wealthy can access. We don't need to fix a broken system. We need to build a new one.

Who We Are

We are Jinny Lee and Josh Hopper. Jinny was born in Seoul, started violin at four, moved to the United States alone in 2013, and has taught for more than eighteen years while playing Principal Second Violin with the Stockton Symphony. Her students have gone on to Juilliard, Tanglewood, Colburn, and SFCM Pre-College. Josh spent his career as a cloud and network architect and left it to build this: the room, the software that runs it, and the business plan behind it. Neither of us came to this as builders. We learned, because the musicians we serve deserved it.

What Jinny's Music Studio Has Already Built

Two working studios, in San Jose and Cupertino, paid for by lessons and bookings and our own savings. A Steinway Model B at the center of a room we designed ourselves and tuned with an acoustician across more than fifty design changes, so it adapts to the player instead of the other way around. More than 1,000 recordings and 10,000 takes. More than 40 enrolled students and a waitlist, about sixty dues-paying members, and a masterclass series that has brought Fabiola Kim, Eric Silberger, Nancy Zhou, and Jonah Kim to the room. Our own operations platform for bookings, billing, and students. Revenue roughly doubled from 2022 to 2025 with almost no advertising, and every dollar went back into the building.

How We Built It

October 2024: we chose the piano before we had a lease, and designed the room around it.

April 2025: the doors opened to fifty seats, every one taken.

2025 to 2026: the Cupertino Studio, memberships, masterclasses, and a rebuilt site with online booking.

Summer 2026: we wrote our own software instead of renting six subscriptions.

September 2026: our first mobile recording, Beethoven at Herbst Theatre.

The Vision: A Music & Arts Campus for San Jose

Picture one campus that holds all of it. Walk in and choose your mentor. Record in a room built of real wood, for real sound. Take a class, eat well, stay late — belong.

Learn — a school of the arts everyone can afford. Create — studios with real acoustics, on demand. Perform — a recital hall and venue for every stage. Gather — a cafe and a real third place. Live — housing for the artists and teachers who keep it running.

The room itself is our sonic canvas. The floor, the ceiling, the panels, and the reflectors move for every session, so a violinist, a vocalist, and a pianist each hear themselves the way they are meant to be heard. What makes it special is not the gear. It is the people who walk through the door as partners, clients, members, and friends.

Why This Model Works

On-demand creative space has already proven itself worldwide — self-service studios booked by the hour, at massive scale. That proves the demand. What it's missing is the human part: mentorship, real acoustics, and a reason to come back.

Jinny's adds an education anchor — recurring, term-based learning — on top of that proven demand, with rooms built for real sound instead of pure convenience. Education is the anchor. Recording, recitals, memberships, instruments, and a real gathering space around it are what turn a studio into a place people stay.

Owning the Ground It Grows On

Rather than lease, the long-term plan is to own the real estate the campus sits on — so the mission can never be priced out of its own home. A campus that pairs a school of the arts with housing above it means the people who teach and perform there can also live there, and the building fills itself.

We believe real estate like this should ultimately belong, in part, to the community it serves — the families, teachers, and neighbors who make it what it is. The structure is drafted and will be finalized with securities counsel before any offering.

Our Teaching Philosophy

None of this works without a teaching philosophy that actually holds up. When technique is truly secure, musical expression becomes natural. The difference from a conservatory isn't the standard — it's the door.

Conservatories audition; excellence is reserved for the few who get chosen. Jinny's holds that the same method can be built in anyone with the will to learn. Walk in.

Why Now, Why San Jose

And the timing matters. San Jose is the Bay Area's largest city, with deep family investment in music education — and no dedicated, affordable arts campus to serve it. Nothing local combines real performance seating with professional-grade instruments and recording.

On-demand creative space is proven globally; our own studios prove local demand today. The community is already here — students, families, and guest artists already fill our sessions and recitals. There are many things for something. There's nothing for everything.

If You Want to Be Part of This

The studio proves the model at small scale. The campus multiplies it. The first step is a founder round that pays for formation and counsel, a build year, the advertising engine that already converts, and a site under option, released in milestones as each is met. A community ownership round follows, structured with securities counsel so that families, neighbors, and local businesses can own a share of the building they use. There are three ways in. Invest in the company that builds and operates the campuses. Give to the school, which turns donations into teacher pay and near-free lesson hours. Or come stand in the room and hear it. Most people decide after the tour.
